Following on from John Hattie's video about making sure learning intentions and success criteria are clear and in child speak, I found this video clip from a teacher who uses John Hattie's approach; explaining how she has establishes the success criteria with her class.
I like how the success criteria is up on display so the students can constantly refer to it while they are writing. I also like how simple and specific the steps are so that students can focus on each step as they are writing. While I already do this in my class, the next step for me is to put the success criteria in the students writing book so they can tick off the steps which will ensure they are actually applying the success criteria as they write.
Here is an inspirational quote that reiterates the importance of involving students in their learning. If they are involved in co-constructing the success criteria, they are not only likely to remember what to do, they will actually do it.
